Finish: Earthy and quite rich with smoke.

Nose: Candle wax, orange oil, juicy barley and honey-coated raisins. Delicate Sherry influences with sweet Highland toffee and banana aromas. Hints of lemon and peppermint linger.

Finish: Raspberry ripple ice cream and white pepper.

Nose: Banana fritters, honey-roasted peanuts, apple and beeswax.
Palate: Crunchy salt and pepper, candied peels, ginger and vanilla-packed barley.
Finish: Hazelnut cream, honey and green olive.

Arran, Bundle, 50 ppm

Both whiskeys are as expected heavily peated on the nose with some light fruity sweetness. On the palate you get the perfect interplay of the independent distillery characters, which stands out against the extremely strong peat at the backdrop. The two drams differ slightly in nuances, where the one has perhaps a little more fruit, and the other is a bit more maritime. The wood notes from the barrels provides the missing link between Arran and peaty malts.

Benriach

Nose: Sweet, minty, dark chocolate, blackberries
Palate: Orange, mint, cherries, gingerbread
Finish: Dark chocolate, blackberries, ginger

Dalmore, Dun Bheagan, 20 y.o.

A 1992 vintage cask strength (46.5%) Tormore from independent bottler Signatory as part of the Cask Strength Collection.  It was matured in bourbon barrels for 23 years.

€ 139.30

Nose: Buttered cinnamon toast, honey, raisins and a generous helping of chocolate cake.
Palate: More chocolate cake, but now with a bonus slice of Christmas cake right next to it! Quite spicy on the mid-palate – think black pepper and nutmeg.
Finish: Damsons and pecans.

Old Deer:
On the nose the sherry barrel comes thru with fruity sweetness, honey notes, Christmas spices gentle grapes and orange. The palate is really expressive and at the same time pleasantly gentle. The sweetness is enhanced by malty notes with a floral touch. The finish is long leathery with residual tobacco aromas, and a hint of vanilla at the very end.

Old Bear:
The maturation in high-quality red wine barrels brings ecstasy to the nose. The smoked barley malt used comes into play intertwined with some light floral flavors, and a certain oriental spice. On the palate you get a lot of smoke, ashes and some sweetness, which reminded me of candy bars at the fair. A beautiful wood note rounds off the taste. The finish is nice and long, the smoke becomes gentler and the aromas clearer.
